INFORMATION
Product Description
HYMOVIS® is intended to provide relief from your osteoarthritis knee pain. HYMOVIS® is a thick, gel-like solution that acts like a lubricant and shock absorber in the knee joint. HYMOVIS® injection treatments may provide up to six months of relief from osteoarthritis knee pain.
Presentation/Quantity
Hymovis® is available as a set of two 5 ml capacity single-use syringes, with each one containing 3 ml of injectable gel for treating osteoarthritic knee pains. The syringes contain a viscoelastic hydrogel which is sterile as well as non-pyrogenic in nature. The gel mimics the action of natural hyaluronan present in decreasing quantities in the knee joints. By supplementing the hyaluronan in the body, Hymovis® treatment improves joint-flexibility and reduces pain in the knees.
Main Benefits
Hymovis® treatment significantly reduces the friction taking place between joints and their surfaces due to its unique lubricating properties. Apart from this, it plays a vital role in the protection and nutrition of the surrounding cartilage and pain relief in the affected areas as well. Most importantly, it has been found to be especially effective in treating meniscal lesion in the knee, a condition mostly connected with injuries caused by sports and athletic activities.
Ingredients
Hymovis® is primarily made up of a highly purified form of hyaluronan, which is produced through bacterial fermentation.
Ingredients Information
Hymovis® is derived through a process that involves ultra-purification of hyaluronan to enhance its viscous and elastic properties, and also increase the time it remains in the body. The proprietary process used for the purpose achieves results without resorting to chemical crosslinking. As a result of these elaborate technical procedures, the extra-pure hyaluronan is almost similar in consistency with that of synovial fluids present naturally between the knee-joints.
Use Instructions
Meant for injection into the knee-joints, Hymovis® is generally administered to the affected knee(s) in two sessions administered a week apart. Only qualified health practitioners trained in the technique of intra-articular injections must administer these injections. The physician uses an 18 to 20-gauge needle for the purpose. After properly cleaning the injection site, the doctor injects 3 ml of the visco-supplement to the knee. If both knees are to be injected, separate syringes are used for each one. A week later, a second dose is administered.
When should I use this injectable?
Hymovis® can be very useful in treatment of osteoarthritis knee patients who are not getting sufficient relief through conventional therapies involving exercise, physiotherapy and simple pain relief medications. It is used extensively in treating meniscal lesion condition of the knee, usually associated with sporting injuries. Since it enhances synovial fluid viscosity and elasticity, Hymovis treatment is also prescribed for improving mobility of the joints. It has received FDA approval for marketing.
What areas can I treat with it?
Although it is used extensively in treating osteoarthritis-induced knee problems, Hymovis® can be effective for treatment in major joint sections of the body – typically the elbow, wrists and ankles.
How long do results last?
Hymovis® injection treatment results last for periods between six months to one year. After that, a repeat dosage of two injections, at a one-week interval, will have to be administered to the affected knee(s).
How long does the procedure take?
Since it is an outpatient procedure, the patient needs to be in the clinic for about an hour. This includes the time taken for preparing the patient for pre- and post-injection procedures. Following the procedure, the patient must refrain from doing any heavy-lifting or activities which could put extra strain on the knee for 48 hours.
